boosting the signal!

I didn't do a WIP post yesterday since I'm frantically working on my

jukebox_fest these days, and that's supposed to remain secret. The deadline is so close! Eeek! There's a lot of other stuff happening though, so I figured I'd do a shout out post.

wipbigbang is on its second round of Claims for artists. (My story has already been claimed YAY. That means I definitely need to finish it on time o.O *insert panicky kermit*) There's still over 60 stories free for a good artist, so check out the claiming post on LJ.

Nominations for

raremaleslashex are closing soon as well. I'm definitely doing The Get Down, Kate Daniels, Naruto (KakaGai yo!) and The Course Of Honour, but I haven't figured out my Original Work nominations yet.

Sign-ups are also happening for

treatyoselfcomm , which is a fest where you write a fic for yourself, and ancquire a cheerleader in the process. I'm really excited about it. Definitely check that out.

Also open for sign-ups is

pod_together , where you can sign up as a podficcer or an author (or both!) and create a podfic together. It's loads of fun, and one of the best-run challenges/fests I've ever seen. This year is the first time I'm not signing up as part of a group, so I'm kind of nervous about matching.

Speaking about podfic,

hagar made a podfic out of ever the tears you wept. I'm really honored, because that's one of my personal favorite stories, and podfic is one of the best gifts you can get. It's the whole reason I have blanket permissions, I love it so much.

Anyway, it's looking like it's going to be a super busy summer, and that's not even counting the

getyourwordsout 7 days 7 Stories event that's taking place in June. I'm excited! And possibly a teensy bit worried I'm overextending myself, but fuck it, I'm going to try and kick ass!

Jukebox Letter

Dear Jukebox author!

Yay, it’s my favorite exchange of the year!

I’m currently on vacation for my birthday, so I’ll be prettying this letter up by the 7th. This should give you a start already though. I hope you find some info here that’s useful. I’m known to be wordy, so feel free to pick and choose to your heart’s content.

I’m a firm believer in Optional Details are Optional, so as long as you respect my few DNWs it’s going to be great!

GENERAL LIKES

This year I’ve requested a bunch of darker tropes and prompts, and this is my blanket permission to go all out! Fucked up relationships! Violence! All the dub/con! Xeno! Blood!

The songs in itself are often quite cheerful, with darker themes under them, and that’s what I’m aiming for, okayness on the surface, fucked-upness underneath that.

As for smut, again if it’s not in the DNWs, I’m game, including for Xeno/Beastiality and anything inbetween, ABO, Dub/Con and Non/Con.

If not specified I like f/f, m/m and m/f, but with a preference for the first two. If m/f I’d like the woman to be the aggressor if that’s applicable.

All prompts are for fic, art and podfic. For art specifically I’m totally onboard for anything graphic.

Jukebox Reclist

So last weekend was reveals time for

jukebox_fest and it's been pretty amazing. (Jukebox is a gift exchange fest around music and music video canons. It's really awesome.)

I got a great gift, based on Human Touch by Bruce Springsteen. The fic plays with the Soulmate trope a lot, and manages to hit all the things I like to speculate about with Soulmate fic. How much do soulmate marks mess with your psyche, how much do they shape you? Can you escape that kind of predestination? It's really cool, and I love it a lot.

I've been reading a lot of the fic the past couple of days, and there's some really great stuff in the collection. I love how in most cases canon knowledge isn't really required - even though it's a small exchange, I don't think I've ever read so much fic in a collection, except maybe for Yuletide. Some general observations, there's a lot of fic about women, which I enjoy, and a lot of it is kind of creepy, which I didn't know I enjoyed this much.

PurimGifts, Jukebox and other things to shake my brains

As some of you know, I only live 25 minutes away from Brussels, so life has been really shaky and sad and horrible lately. I won't go into it here, except to once more officially state that the world can really suck sometimes.

I wasn't in a good headspace before that, so it's been kind of hard to deal with it all. So it was time for the tried and true coping mechanism of dealing with sadness like this: happy media consumption, and fandom distractions.

I've been watching Hit The Floor, a silly show about scheming cheerleaders, scheming basketball players, and scheming other characters. It's fun, it's wacko and it has a gay athlete coming out story, which always pushes my buttons.

I've also been watching Shadowhunters, which features some of the worst acting I've ever seen, and I seriously dislike half of the characters and 70% of the plot. But it also features canon gay characters struggling with who they are, and just my buttons being pushed all over the place. Plus, so many hot people, it's ridiculous, but just the kind of shallow deliciousness I need.

It's possibly I'm planning to write about Alec and Magnus for

unconventionalcourtship and just write myself some silly category romance inspired feel good fic.

I'm also participating in

jukebox and listening to a lot of the music that was nominated by others. Sometimes songs are good for the soul. I'm really looking forward to this, even if I'm a little bit intimated by writing original fiction.

And last but not least, I participated in

purimgifts for which I wrote 3 short fics about Brooklyn 99s Rosa and Amy and their friendship. And also produced 3 art-pieces, which if you've ever tried painting Rosa's hair will know was quite the adventure for an amateur like me.

I als received a lovely story in 3 parts for Killjoys, a superpowers AU. It was just what I needed to be distracted, some action, lots of tension, and fun reimaginings of the characters.

And like, on a bigger scale all this stuff is minor and insignificant, but fuck it, it's been giving me joy when there's very little to be had, so I'm grateful.
