And just, they just want to go home, but the Romans fuck them over, and then Dagonet sacrifices himself and I drown in tears.

I love the obvious affection Bors feels for both Vanora and Dagonet, I love how Dagonet is this mountain of silent, but deep feelings, and I love how Vanora is possibly the only sensible person in that whole castle. I have a mighty need for the three of them to LIVE happily ever after. Fuck, they'd be hot, and awesome and glorious together. Honestly, this is one of my perennial requests because my love for them never stills. A long time ago I wrote this Sarmatian Threesome primer, and all my emotions are still as strong.

This is a very specific request for OT3, please don't make them Pairing + One

PROMPTS

DAGONET LIVES

The whole Sarmatian knight thing is one of the biggest appeals for me, so I would love fic that explores the culture clashes between Bors and Dagonet, Sarmatians raised by the Roman army, and Vanora, a woman of the isles (?). (We actually don’t know her background; she sings about Home and it’s implied she’s singing about Sarmatia, but since we don’t see any girls being displaced by the Romans, I think that she’s the daughter of a former Sarmatian knight with a British woman. Which I love because Culture Clash! But feel free to play around to your heart’s content.
There’s also Bors idea of settling in Britain, which I love, because again, culture clash, and also Bors is just such a soldier, the idea of him trying his hand at farming cracks me up. But I also imagine them all going back to Sarmatia, and like trying to settle in a life there that they lost a long time ago, because when you spent such a formative part of your youth away from your culture, it’s bound to feel alien. Speaking of Sarmatia, apparently they were known for having Warrior Women, so a fic where Vanora’s kind but bossy nature is what attracts them to her would be lovely
This can all be established relationship, or them getting together, either with something already being there between two of them (Bors/Vanora, or Bors/Dagonet) and the third one balancing it all out. The Romancing and Seduction of one Silent Stoic Soldier called Dagonet, by means of Stray Children, Foul Language and Excellent Sex, as told by Vanora, with enthusiastic annotations by Bors, would be excellent.

I’m not going to lie, I’m mostly into these three because they’re so affectionate with one another, there’s so much physicality in this movie and it’s so obvious they love each other. So yeah, I’m here for some hot Sarmatian threesomes. Some ideas and things I like for them:

I have a theory that obviously Bors' 12 children are at least 50% strays Dagonet picked up. I'd love a slice of life type fic, where the three (try to) find an escape from the daily chaos of raising 12 children to get laid. Extra kudos if there's a couple of awkward walk-ins and some failed attempts because of sudden interruptions. Sex in the outdoors seems like one possible solution to this problem.
I did love all the fighting scenes a lot, and angsty fic where someone gets wounded, and the other two comfort them and each other would be delicious. Without the angst I'd also love Post-Battle victory sex, Thank God We're Alive sex and Dammit, Looking at you fight makes me really horny sex. Could also be Post-Training sex, because I imagine Vanora to be an interested spectator whenever Bors and Dagonet spar. I'm convinced they'd have competitions between them to have the honor of eating Vanora out that evening. All the manhandling, rolling around, struggling for being on top. I like to think Vanora makes up for her lack of physical strength (in comparison) with the strength of her personality.
I'd love a Soulbond AU, or an Animal Shifter AU, or both. Especially if there'd be cultural differences between the Britons and Sarmatians in how was dealt with this. I love me some Fantasy Non-Human Genitalia, so feel free to go as weird and kinky as you want. I'm also really into all the marking and claiming and possessiveness, especially if it's mutual and in all directions.

Fandom specific DNW: Dagonet being dead (except of old age when all three of them have died).
More a caveat than a DNW: I'm fine with any iteration of the Arthur-Lancelot-Guinevere situation you prefer, as long as it's very much in the background and not the focus on the fic.

I didn't do a WIP post yesterday since I'm frantically working on my jukebox_fest these days, and that's supposed to remain secret. The deadline is so close! Eeek! There's a lot of other stuff happening though, so I figured I'd do a shout out post.

wipbigbang is on its second round of Claims for artists. (My story has already been claimed YAY. That means I definitely need to finish it on time o.O *insert panicky kermit*) There's still over 60 stories free for a good artist, so check out the claiming post on LJ.

Nominations for raremaleslashex are closing soon as well. I'm definitely doing The Get Down, Kate Daniels, Naruto (KakaGai yo!) and The Course Of Honour, but I haven't figured out my Original Work nominations yet.

Sign-ups are also happening for treatyoselfcomm , which is a fest where you write a fic for yourself, and ancquire a cheerleader in the process. I'm really excited about it. Definitely check that out.

Also open for sign-ups is pod_together , where you can sign up as a podficcer or an author (or both!) and create a podfic together. It's loads of fun, and one of the best-run challenges/fests I've ever seen. This year is the first time I'm not signing up as part of a group, so I'm kind of nervous about matching.

Speaking about podfic, hagar made a podfic out of ever the tears you wept. I'm really honored, because that's one of my personal favorite stories, and podfic is one of the best gifts you can get. It's the whole reason I have blanket permissions, I love it so much.

Anyway, it's looking like it's going to be a super busy summer, and that's not even counting the getyourwordsout 7 days 7 Stories event that's taking place in June. I'm excited! And possibly a teensy bit worried I'm overextending myself, but fuck it, I'm going to try and kick ass!

Look, I like alliterations and there's no days starting with R, alas.

One of the reasons I'm somewhat behind on writing is that I've been reading a lot lately, on top of all the stuff I've been watching. Most of it was really good though, so I definitely don't have any regrets.

Thanks to isis , I started Course Of Honour a couple of weeks ago. Arranged Marriage in Space?? With slow-burn pining and lots of politics?Count me in. It finished last week, and I'm honestly sad it's over. I enjoyed it so much, both Kiem and Jainan were such great characters, with varying strengths and weakness, and I loved the world and all the politics. The slow-burn was delicious, and while I wished the author would have spent a little more time on the emotional resolution, I'm still absolutely in love with these two. And kind of hoping there'll be fanfic and/or missing scenes.

While I didn't participate in fandom5k I did read and commented on quite a bit of fic. Overall I thought the exchange was really good quality wise. I'm definitely thinking about participating next year, if they lower the offering fandoms a little. I wrote an embarrassingly long comment (nearly hit the character limit) for i have named you queen (listen) by damkianna. It's a truly amazing F/F Original Work story, about a princess who gets herself out of a dire situation by proposing to another princess. It's filled with cultural conflicts and misunderstandings, is set in a super interesting desert world, with great political intrigue, and the main character has such an amazing voice, and such a layered personality. One of the best things I read so far this year. I even got out of bed after finishing it because I just had so much emotions about it, I couldn't share them by typing on my phone. It was so good.

I also really enjoyed Thorough-bass and human nature by MildredMost, which is a Pride and Prejudice story about Mary Bennet finding love and piano lessons. I never cared much for Mary, but this fic really brought home to me how much we only see her trough Lizzy's eyes, and how Mary really got the short end in her upbringing. I honestly got emotional when she got actual piano lessons and improved so marvellously, her crowning moment of awesome was so great and rewarding. I also really loved her love-interest, and truly, this is the kind of future I wish for her.

Next week the second book in the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews comes out, so I've started my reread of Burn For Me. I'm really enjoying it, the Andrews' writing and characterisation is as ever top-notch, but I'd forgotten how much of a psychopath Mad Rogan is. Which I enjoy for plot reasons, but I'm kind of wary of him turning into a romantic lead. Basically, the Andrews' sold me on the fact that's mad so well, I'm not sure he can recover from that?
I always loved Kate and Curran's relationship from the Kate Daniels series, because they're so evenly matched, both somewhat homicidal maniacs who reach for violence as a response way too soon. They match well together because of that. Rogan and Nevada seem too fundamentally different at this point to really work as a couple, the power-imbalance seems to vast to me.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very willing to go wherever the Andrews' take me, and I have a lot of faith in their ability to truly have characters develop and grow. I'm just not sure they're getting the book space to really make it work.
In any case, I'm looking forward to the next instalment immensely.

Wip Wednesday

I've been planning to do a weekly WIP post for a while now, to keep myself motivated and to keep track of what I'm working on. I'm not the best at longer projects, mostly because I easily get distracted by new shiny fic ideas, and thus lose momentum with older ideas if I don't finish them right away.

One of the reasons I do so many exchanges is because the deadline makes me finish things while I'm working on it, but that doesn't fix the issue for fics I start on my own of course (my Scrivener project for Shadowhunters is like 80% unfinished fics, it's a tragedy).

Which is why I'm so happy with wipbigbang, as it allows me to finish the Space AU I started and would otherwise never have finished. It's a Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair fusion, in which Alec is a famous cyborg, and Magnus a warlock mercenary turned captain who've been on opposite sides of a war for a couple of years, but are now forced to work together. I already posted their first meeting as a prologue set about 7 years before the storyline I'm working on.

Thing is, one of my goals of this year is to publish a story every month, and since both jukebox_fest and soulexchange posting dates are early june, I needed an extra story to post in May. Which means I've started a Alec/Magnus magical bonding PWP, but that also means that I now have to urgently finish three fics.

My best friends marries next week, so now I'm having all of the race to the deadline stress. Sometimes that's part of the fun, but we'll see how I feel about that next week!

too much to handle

I don't have a television, so the last couple of years my TV watching has limited itself to a couple of tv shows, about 3 per year, that I follow more or less while they air. They never overlap while airing, so that's easy enough.

There's just not that much TV I'm interested in?

Up til 3 weeks ago, because suddenly there's stuff I need and want to watch everywhere. American Gods is finally airing, based on the book by Neil Gaiman. It was my favorite book for a long time, I met Neil (we even hugged) and have my copy signed, and while the fervent love is over now, I'm still super into the concept, and the show is looking good. Plus, you know, Ian McShane is always amazing. So far it's incredibly pretty, there's good build-up of all the characters, but I'm still waiting for the emotional bang.

In the same category of based on old favorite books, there's the Handmaid's Tale, based on the book by Margaret Atwood. It's horrifying and brutal and terribly and so fucking gorgeous. I can't watch more than one episode every couple of days because every single one leaves me rattled and upset, but fuck it's so good. I especially love how the focus is very much on the relationships between the women, trapped as they all are. I wish I had the time and brain space to let it all digest more. (Although it's possible it's a good thing I'm so occupied, so the horror can't linger too much). In any case, I definitely see myself rewatching this in the future. It's also the show I'm recommending to everyone, everywhere, because it's so poignant and so current, despite being based on a book from the 80s. Guess nothing ever changes.

Last weekend, Netflix dropped the new season of Sense8. I promised myself I wouldn't binge it, because well, other stuff to do! But it was so good, definitely an upgrade from season 1 and the disappointing Christmas Special, that I couldn't help myself. So I pushed through all of it, and I'm still reeling with everything that happened. I'm sure there are tons of details that I missed, so I'll probably rewatch it at a more leisurely pace. And I'm itching to rewatch the first season, because I kind of want to look at everything with what we now know. It feels like I haven't given myself the chance yet to properly enjoy it.

The same happened with the 2nd half of the first season of The Get Down, which was dropped in April. I rushed through it, rewatched a couple of favorite scenes, but I didn't get the chance to let it all gesticulate. There was fic I wanted to write, but I need a little more time to let a canon digest to really make it mine and feel comfortable writing about it, and now because of all the other things I've watched and am watching, the ship has probably sailed.

I was thinking about this yesterday, while reading Sense8 comments on FFA lamenting the lack of fic, that this whole thing of dropping seasons in one go, makes for a whole different process of familiarizing oneself with a canon. When something airs weekly, you have time in between to think and speculate and focus on little details. By the time the end of the season is there, you're ready to write all the fic, because you've had the time to make it yours. This doesn't really happen when you binge-watch something, you loose the details of the worldbuilding.

I need those details to feel comfortable writing fic for something.

So I don't know. I'm feeling somewhat overwhelmed. Shadowhunters 2b is airing soon, which is my main fandom of the moment, so that'll probably eat up my attention, so before that I honestly want to enjoy all of this other stuff. I'm just not sure how I'm going to do that with the job, and all the fic exchanges I'm enrolled it. I've got more than 2000 posts in my tumblr drafts, because I love pretty graphics, and suffer a little bit of the 'want to ~~catch~~ reblog them all' syndrome.
